I second the Detective Conan suggestion. It's a wonderful series and is loaded full of detective references from many famous detective series and authors, not just Sherlock Holmes.
I like Detective Conan, as well as Steam Detectives and Read or Die. I run an anime group at my local library named 'Read or Die'. This year we celebrated with Holmes cake in January, a good intro for my fifteen year olds.
