This premise is indeed correct... Holmes was not a member of the craft; however, as Watson had been a military (Army) surgeon: he would have almost certainly been a member of the Freemasons during the period. Many years ago I watched a non-Doyle a...

Yes, indeed nowhere except the Granada series, Lestrade's character is so well portrayed! Even while reading the stories, i didn't enjoy his part as I did in the series. Especially in 'The Six Napoleons' and of course 'The Norwood Builder'.Hatsoff...

I can't speak to Tracy, but my eyebrow went up when I saw your phrase "apparent suicides of so many Sherlockians." I can think of two, which of course isn't statistically significant. Just how many are you aware of?

About Me:
I've chiefly been a workaday journalist/writer/actor. As a sideline, I've served as a magician, mind-reader and professional Holmes impersonator for public and private events across the U.S. and in the U.K. since 1986 (bookings through MysteryVisits.com). Two-time contributor to the Baker Street Journal, most recently with the Autumn 2007 issue. Member and former gasogene, Watson's Tin Box of Ellicott City, Md. (and to its publication, Irene's Cabinet), and the Hounds of the Internet (contributor to two Best of the Hounds collections). Honorary member of the Six Napoleons of Baltimore. Current major writing projects involve the life of Sir Arthur C. Clarke and the Crosswhite family's adventures as fugitive slaves during the 1840s and 1850s (see bibliography at MysteryVisits.com). Twice married and twice divorced; my talented and fair-minded adult son lives in NYC.

Favorite Books:
Besides the Canon, of course ... Novels -- Clarke's Childhood's End, Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451, any Wodehouse and Jerome Jerome. Nonfiction -- Jaynes' The Origin of Consciousness, Sagan's The Dragons of Eden. Then there's whatever I happen to be reading at the moment, which might be almost anything esoteric.
Favorite Holmes:
Early Brett, Ian Richardson, Peter Cushing. I have a soft spot for Arthur Wontner.

I'm just getting my footing after last month's NYC BSI brouhaha, and my photo of the dinner now graces my wall. Can't believe I was really there, but the photo proves it. At least, as long as you trust that it wasn't PhotoShopped.

I am puzzled as to your comment about "consuming the pudding"? care to explain a bit more?
Now as to the JCS references. JCS is my favourite Holmes, because of the very real interaction that we have not experienced with any of the others. We were actually involved in a number of cases with Holmes. It just doesn't get any better than that!

I'd really like to see one of Mr. Holmes' presentations sometime. Maybe I can see if some Illustrious Clients can send him a formal invitation.

Thanks for being a friend!

Thanks you very much, Mr. S. The trip to Savannah was a highlight of the year. I hadn't realised Mr. Holmes was so adept at legerdemain. I see that you are an Arthur C. Clarke fan. Me, too. I have remarked elsewhere (BSJ) on the intuitive appreciation of Mr. Holmes for the
"psychohistory" idea of Mr. Clarke's contemporary, Mr. I. Asimov (Remarkable Worm, BSI) Having a fondness for the canonical format of the serial/short stories of Foundation. My favorite Clarke book is, not surprisingly, Tales from the White Hart. My best to you, and please pass my regards to Mr. Holmes when you next see him. Yours, David McCallister
