"I've taken a break from reading Sherlock Peoria. Man, how wonderful. While I do miss the thoughtful musings on Sherlockiana, I do not miss the "twisting theories to suit facts" approach Brad applies to his anti-Elementary screeds."

James C. O'Leary replied to Joe Riggs's discussion The “Elementary” Problem...
"Yes, I do think that Scott was distracted. According to the internal chronology of the show Scott got the call in May or June and "A Scandal of Belgravia" does not come to a head until after Christmas. A "so changeable" criminal…"

James C. O'Leary replied to Joe Riggs's discussion The “Elementary” Problem...

James C. O'Leary replied to Joe Riggs's discussion The “Elementary” Problem...

Profile Information

Favorite Books:
I enjoy reading the Higher Criticism. I have an interest in the chronological problems and in the Apocrypha. I came of age during the Great Boom and managed to get Magico's reprints of the Christ, Bell, and Zeisler chronologies. I'd like to give a shout-out to John Weber's "Under the Darkling Sky A Chrono-Geographic Odyssey through The Holmesian Canon" (The Battered Silicon Dispatch Box 2010). I believe that one day it will take its place next to the classic chronologies. While it is not heavily illustrated, the next time I read CHAS I will see Weber's choice for Appledore Towers. Also, Watson's back wall that Holmes climbed over in FINA. The BSI's "The Grand Game Vol I" and "Vol II" are essential. Of course you can never have too many editions of the Canon: Baring-Gould's Annotated, Klinger's New Annotated, and the Reference Library. I used to read pastiches more than I do now; I've read too many bad ones over the years. That said, If you like pastiches and haven't read the adventures of "the Sherlock Holmes of Praed Street", Solar Pons, you should.
Favorite Holmes:
The Creeping Man--If someone wanted to write the perfect pastiche, they couldn't do better than studying this little gem. Of course, unlike Dakin, I do believe this story is Canonical.
