Our lodge is doing fairly well, but there are many Catholics who live in our area, and especially in our town. I'm a Big Basil Rathbone fan, but the more I see of the Jeremy Brett's portrayals the better I like his rendition of Holmes. I've rediscovered them by watching those episodes upon Youtube, and it is amazing that most of them are on there (Youtube) in their entirety. Pity is... many who have their interest inspired by occultish films don't realize the truely religious (belief in God) aspect of Masonry, sadly many believe it is some type of cult, or secret Kabal of individuals who wish to run the country. As we both know sometime Masons can't make up their minds what type of meat for the next dinner! Most fans of Sherlock Holmes are themselves a bit higher upon the mental food chain, and as the general populace "dumbs down" this has meant less followers of the Baker's Street duo!!!

I developed my interest Sherlock about the same time that I first learned more about Masonry. I have read the books, listened to Old Time Radio broadcasts, and seen the movies. I particularly like the BBC movies. I only recently learned that there were various Sherlockian Societies. I didnt think that other people were as interested in Holmes and Watson as I was. I am especially pleased to see a rediscovery of Sherlock Holmes among people the younger generations.

There is also a podcast associated with this group called "I hear of Sherlock everywhere". That is how I found this website. After listening to the podscasts, I finally decided to check out the webpage with a vague hope of glimpsing a reference or two Masonry. I had sincere doubts that I would find anything but, like you, I am excited to find it and can easily see it growing to be huge.

I actually see that the rediscovery of Sherlock Holmes closely mirrors the rediscovery of Masonry among Generation X, Y and the Millenials. As the recent movies and books have caused a spark in lodge growth, I can see that the new upcoming movie could actually do the same for Sherlock. Just as the Lord of the Rings Movies popularized Tolkien to the masses, so could the film do for Doyle.

This group should be much larger than it is I know. There should be thousands. I wonder if the new movie will have any masonic references in it? Robert Downey Jr. would have not been my pick; although the trailer seems to show he's somewhat carried off this very British role. Maybe the membership will grow into a multi-million dollar enterprise!
