Comment by Bob Cassady on January 12, 2013 at 2:18am Lestrade's character is a very heavy lift in the Canon. When you think that he was in only 14 of the stories and was mentioned 52 times in the Norwood Builder, yet he has earned his place in our hearts. How many times have you thought of him while watching something else? Jeavons is excellent as Lestrade too. I liked Houy, oh hell, there ain't no bad Lestrade's in my world.
Comment by Violet Hunter on September 4, 2012 at 12:30am Jeavons plays the role with a twinkle -- you want to keep your eyes on him to see every reaction written on his face, especially the petty ones where he's boastful, sheepish, puzzled, angry, all within the space of two or three minutes. Rupert Graves (in BBC's Sherlock) plays it much more deadpan, almost humorless; he's a good actor, but his Lestrade is less interesting to watch.
Comment by Molting Boomslang on February 10, 2012 at 2:21pm @ M. Creston Dennis Hoey is a great Lestrade too, although overall I think Colin Jeavons was the better of the two. :p
Comment by Arushi on August 29, 2011 at 6:14am Very true :)
That's the reason why The Second Stain and The Six Napoleons have a special place in my heart.
Love Jeremy's smile when Holmes wins over Lestrade. That calculated emotion with the right amount of joy for victory and revenge underscores his flair for acting.

Comment by Arushi on December 14, 2010 at 4:07am @Creston Glad that you understand why I 'hated' it !
Comment by M. Creston Williams on December 13, 2010 at 4:07pm Arushi, I understand how you must feel about the Downey Holmes film. I just watched it again today and found myself noting every error. What we have here is a film script done with what I call "the blender" approach. They took what "they" consider Holmesian elements and blended it with their version of Holmes, and then "sprinkled" it with bits from the stories. Yes, loosley based on Doyle's works, very loosley based. Filled with enough deviations to anger many Holmes fans. Basically, it's what they did to devoted fans of The Shadow in 1994 with that dreadful film.
Comment by Arushi on December 13, 2010 at 7:40am @M.Creston I haven't yet had the chance to check out that version of the Sherlock Holmes series as was so satisfied with the Granada series. Will check it out and comment.
Comment by M. Creston Williams on December 12, 2010 at 1:10pm @Arushi. Ah, you do cut me unjustly. I do see that everyone is entitled to their own opinion, whether I agree with it or not. I do wish you would have stayed until the end and had given it a fair chance. However, be it so if you will, it IS your choice. So, anything else of interest you wish to share? What did you think of Dennis Hoey (opposite Basil Rathbone) as Lestrade?
Comment by Arushi on December 11, 2010 at 11:33pm @M Creston I did walk out on it...left it after I couldn't take the tom foolery any longer. Would like to quote a comment from Jeremy's fan page on FB on the movie--> "somewhere Sir Doyle and Jeremy are turning in their graves"
You have to see that everyone's entitled to have an opinion.
