Just a quick update to let you all know that I have been informed by a reliable source in Hindhead that some contractors from a demolition company made a preliminary visit to 'Undershaw' two days ago! However, Waverly Borough Council has stated that it will not make a final decision about the future of the house until later this summer at the earliest. So there you have it folks - there is a real possibility that the home which ACD had built for his ailing and beloved 'Touie' might be lost to us forever.

The comments left by fellow Sherlockians and Doyleans from around the world on the online petition make for compelling reading. If you have not already signed, please do so before 4th August 2009 when the petition will be forwarded to the local Historical Buildings Officer at Waverley Borough Council. Let's try to avoid the painful irony of losing 'Undershaw' during the very same year that the new Sherlock Holmes film is scheduled to be released!
