News & updates on the world of Sherlock Holmes, by Sherlockians for Sherlockians

Some of you nay have already heard the news that Rev. Dr. Benton Wood died Dec. 8th in Ellenton, FL. Ben was the second invested "Scandal in Bohemia" of the BSI, and its chaplain. He followed Leslie Marshall in this investiture and role, and also as the long-time head of the Pleasant Places of Florida scion. He was given the Two Shilling award by Tom Stix, and will be remembered by his many proteges and friends as an indefatigable apostle for Sherlockiana. His wife Joan, is one of The Women, to whom our condolences are expressed.

I didn't know Ben, and to my knowledge our paths never crossed, but the loss of a great Sherlockian is a loss to us all. My sympathies to his family and friends.

David,

I knew Ben very well, and I was sorry to hear of his passing. A real gentleman has left us...

I have been remiss in enquiring if there was any form of "Standing on the Terrace" for Ben at the 2008 BSI Dinner. Can anyone enlighten me?

Hi David - yes, there was. I captured some audio from the dinner. I'll see if I can post the Terrace readings at some point.

Ben Wood was such a nice man and a credit to the Sherlockian community. One of the facts about the Sherlockian world is that so many of its most knowledgeable and accomplished people are a generation or more older than many of us. Over the years, I've had to the accept the fact that a number of the Sherlockians that I got to know and like would pass away.

Rev Ben shepherded me into the formation of my first scion society, the Pin Point Pupils of Erie, PA. He was a great guy, and shall be missed.
